Shy Animal

What is a value?
Is it something that
you hold in your
hand like a baby
bird - or is it
something you salute
like a fifty
starred flag?
Is it as hard
to grasp as
water or will
it fill a
colored baloon
like gas?

I've never actually
seen a value
I used to salute
the flag when I
was little and
had to but that
was like any other
thoughtless thing I
did I've heard about
"family values" - they're
the latest fad like
the "wonders of atomic
energy" back in the
'fifties.

I think value must
exist off to the
side of things
like a shy
animal afraid of
being trampled
on and
blinded by
headlights.
